Our Story

How it all began...

Sam Brancato was the oldest of four children of Frank and Josephine Brancato, originally settled in Dallas TX from Campo Felice, Sicily. Sam Brancato helped run the family grocery store Brancato’s Market in Dallas.  He later met Rose Marie Cusamano whose family had settled in Kansas City. They were married in October of 1949. Sam Brancato worked for his father-in-law who was part owner of Roma Bakery as a baker for many years. He loved tending to the family farm and making among other things farm fresh Italian Sausage with his son. In 1989 Sam Brancato and Joe Brancato, Sr. opened and operated Brancato’s Market at 4019 Independence Avenue in Kansas City Missouri through 2002. It is Brancato’s Market where people came to know and love Brancato’s Italian sausage.


The Italian Sausage Company is a scratch kitchen that uses recipes passed down generation to generation from both sides of our Italian families, as well as new ones we have created with east coast influence. Inside The Italian Sausage Company we are sausage centric but that’s not all you will find. We offer our handmade fresh Italian Sausage, Italian deli sandwiches, deli meats, cheeses, olive salads,  local artisanal bread, Betty Rae’s ice cream, imported goods. A unique concept that is sure to have something for everyone!

Family, Friends, and food is always worth celebrating. To us food is so much more than a nourishing meal. We are blessed to be able to create an experience from what has been passed down into our willing hands. Every bite savors the love expressed when we gather with our own family to share a meal and each other’s company.
